Purisima Creek Park
Let's ride Purisima Creek OSP! We'll start at the southern roadside parking area on Skyline (near Kings Mountain Rd) and ride to the north entrance where the fun begins. Whittmore Gulch is both scenic and fun, taking us from the top of the mountain to the creek at the bottom. We'll loop around Gordon Hatch Mill and Grabtown Gulch trails before climbing back up to the starting point along Purisima Creek (think beautiful redwoods). There are limited facilities (no water). No sweep. 01-08-2025 09:30:00 01-08-2025 11:30:00 6 ACTC: TrailRoller - Purisima 13 mi, 4 LM-M , 2800 ft: Let's ride Purisima Creek OSP! Meet at Shoup Park about 7:30 for departure about 7:45. The Doon century breathes fresh air in its most unhinged incarnation to date! I'll let the route mostly speak for itself with the following notes: Five miles of packed gravel on Old Haul Road; five miles of climbing on Skyline (in the morning). Very late lunch in Pescadero with numerous water stops and stores along route beforehand. 02-08-2025 07:45:00 02-08-2025 09:45:00 6 ACTC: Resurrection of Doon 116 mi, 5 MB , 11600 ft: Meet at Shoup Park about 7:30 for departure about 7:45. Meet William Mueller at 9:45 AM at the Campbell Community Center, 1 Campbell Ave (meet behind the skate park) for a 10:00 START. The route starts in Campbell, then goes over two short but steep (>15%) climbs to reach the Stevens Creek Reservoir. We then head down the canyon and cross through Sunnyvale to the Baylands, where we take the San Tomas Aquinas Trail to get to the Ice Cream Social. Return is via Los Padres. Although classified a grizzly, this is definitely not a flat ride. However we can wait at the top if you need to hoof some of the steeper bits. Rain or AQI>100 cancels. Print or download route here. 03-08-2025 10:00:00 03-08-2025 12:00:00 6 ACTC: WM Earn that Ice Cream 37 mi, 4 LM-M , 1300 ft: Meet William Mueller at 9:45 AM at the Campbell Community Center, 1 Campbell Ave (meet behind the skate park) for a 10:00 START. Mount Umunhum,Sierra Azul-Woods Road
Starting from the larger Wood Trail Parking lot (not the smaller Jacques Ridge lot at the intersection), we'll ride up Woods and Barlow to the Mt. Umunhum Trail and then up to the former radar tower. After a some recovery and a few snacks, we'll head back. There are some very steep sections with marginal traction, so some hike-a-bike is likely. Plan to be fully self-sufficient. Be forewarned this is a big ride. To avoid the hardest climbs, you can join the ride at the Mt. Umunhum Trailhead with parking at the Bald Mountain lot (limited). Arrival time for the main ride is uncertain, so we'll join up if you are there when the group from the bottom arrives. Please inform the ride leader via text before 10:00 AM if you are planning to meet the group at the Umunhum Trailhead (mid-ride). 08-08-2025 10:00:00 08-08-2025 12:00:00 6 ACTC: TrailRoller - Mt. Arrival time for the main ride is uncertain, so we'll join up if you are there when the group from the bottom arrives. Please inform the ride leader via text before 10:00 AM if you are planning to meet the group at the Umunhum Trailhead (mid-ride). Ride Start: Upper parking lot of the Lexington Elementary School in Los Gatos. This is a repeat of our new Summer Fitness Series, designed to maintain our fitness after The Death Ride. The Santa Cruz mountains will be cooler than the 92 degrees in the valley. Jennifer will lead the faster cyclists in front. Melanie will lead from behind. John will lead a shorter version, listed separately. This is a really tough route. It's not a good ride for beginners. Make sure you bring enough food. There is water along the route, but it wouldn't hurt to carry 2-liter bottles. 09-08-2025 07:30:00 09-08-2025 09:30:00 6 ACTC: Summer Fitness Series 91 mi, 5 LM-M , 11,344 ft: Ride Start: Upper parking lot of the Lexington Elementary School in Los Gatos. Meet in the west church parking lot, corner of E. Hamilton Ave and Leigh Ave, San Jose. We will ride up the San Tomas Aquino Creek trail, do an out and back on the levees (construction limits our ability to do a loop) and return via the Gaudalupe River Trail. About 9 miles of this ride are on hard-packed dirt but easily ridden on standard road bikes. Since that section is out and back, early turnaround is possible if it's uncomfortable (the first mile is usually the worst). Shorebird sightings and salt pond views are typically impressive. Regroups as necessary and as always, no one left behind. Optional food and drink at the Pruneyard less than a mile from the start. 11-08-2025 09:30:00 11-08-2025 11:30:00 6 ACTC: Monday Mixed Terrain - Alviso Levees 39 mi, 1 LM-M , 415 ft: Meet in the west church parking lot, corner of E. This Tuesday's Terrible Tour features the Gazos Creek Century aka GCC. A yet unnamed co-leader (Calling Dr. JB!) will lead brisk paced buddies starting at 09:30 (a 2 hour handicap). The slog version will start as posted. Terrible Tuesday is in fact disguised as a Mountain Goat due to the North Escape and Gazos Creek traverse, but it's actually a bumpy road ride. This loop encircles the South Bay's coastal range like a fat anaconda, pausing to engorge itself at Pescadero, with a petite refresh or snack at the Farm, just before the finish. Any low geared kit will do, provided your tush and tires are ample. This is barely mixed terrain, having only about 10 ft of dirt and a few feet of "cobbleoids", but we'll get a couple of easy goats with the typical Stevens Cyn, Mt Eden/Pierce route from the church (west parking lot on Leigh at Hamilton) and return via a meander thru various neighborhoods (download the route or stay with the group). Post-ride food/drink after in the Pruneyard. 2 Or More Trails
Easy, scenic, flat route that people can mostly ride side by side to chat. Starts at City Line Water Sculpture in Sunnyvale kitty corner from Whole Foods/AMC Theatre. If you drive, Park in the Whole Foods, Orange, or Pear Parking garages. Ride goes thru Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Mountain View mostly on quiet streets and trails where we can ride side by side and socialize. Trails include Bol Park Bike Path, Bay Trail, and short section of Stevens Creek Trail. Fibbar McGees at the end for Lunch on the Murphy Street plaza (lots of beers, etc). Eat/drink outside next to your bike. May not be as great as Park Station Hashery but it is pretty close plus there are 6 or 7 other outdoor dining options on that street for variety :-) 19-08-2025 09:30:00 19-08-2025 11:30:00 6 ACTC: Sunnyvale Social Loop to Fibbar McGees 24 mi, 1 L-LM , 363 ft: Easy, scenic, flat route that people can mostly ride side by side to chat. Ride Start: Upper parking lot of the Lexington Elementary School in Los Gatos. I'm testing a new route for our Summer Fitness Series. Temperatures will be hot today. This route avoids some of the warmer pockets in the SC Mountains, so this route should keep us a bit cooler. Jennifer will lead the faster cyclists in front. Melanie will lead from behind. John will lead a shorter version, listed separately. This is a really tough route. It's not a good ride for beginners. Make sure you bring enough food. There is ample water listed as control points along the route, but it wouldn't hurt to carry 2-liter bottles or a camelbak. 23-08-2025 07:30:00 23-08-2025 09:30:00 6 ACTC: Summer Fitness Series 106 mi, 5 LM-M , 11,800 ft: Ride Start: Upper parking lot of the Lexington Elementary School in Los Gatos. Starting at the Congregational Church (Leigh and Hamilton, west parking lot on Leigh), we will venture west to Rancho San Antonio (RSA) Park, wind our way thru Los Altos Hills and take a shortcut ("Dirty Moody", <1 mile of easy dirt trail suitable for all bikes makes this mixed terrain) up to PA Foothills Park for great views to the north and east. We'll return via Foothill Expwy and Prospect. Although classified a grizzly, THIS IS NOT A FLAT RIDE (2074 ft of climbing). The climb out of RSA is steep but short but the views are worth it. No one left behind.
Ride goes thru Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Mountain View mostly on quiet streets and trails (with some unpaved sections) where we can ride side by side and socialize. Trails include Stevens Creek Trail, Los Altos Hetch Hetchy Trail, Bol Park Bike Path, and Bay Trail. Lunch on the Murphy Street plaza -- lots of outdoor dining options. Eat/drink outside next to your bike. May not be as great as Park Station Hashery but there are about a dozen outdoor dining options on that street for variety :-) 26-08-2025 09:30:00 26-08-2025 11:30:00 6 ACTC: Sunnyvale Social Loop to Murphy Street 24 mi, 1 L-LM , 363 ft: Easy, scenic, flat route that people can mostly ride side by side to chat. I can adjust my speed to accommodate slower riders. Please bring your tools for any unfortunate events, and check the rides bulletin for any last minute updates.
